Session Descriptions, October 18, 2007

ATCA Super Session
Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) and its promise of high availability and autonomous operation is finally a reality. This session is the place to learn all you need to know about getting started on ATCA. First will be a discussion of the of the state of the ATCA ecosystem today - including perspectives from some of the leading industry players. Then you will hear details on NMS's ATCA offerings and the migration from CompactPCI to ATCA. A demonstration of high availability operations will be provided, as well as a glimpse into the future of the market and NMS's offerings.

VXML Service Creation Environments

Open Access Overview and Roadmap
In their quest to lower lifecycle costs and boost profits, operators have turned up the pressure on developers and equipment providers to deliver a steady stream of new services. This presentation will review how our customers have developed leading applications with the Open Access family. The session will also explore the Open Access product roadmap of the future.

Featured Presenter:
George Kontopidis, Senior Vice President Engineering, Communications Platforms, NMS

Building an Interactive Video Application that Sticks

Driving increased ARPU with minimal investments is a key issue with global service providers. In today's tech-savvy world, the mobile phone has evolved into a ready-made entertainment device delivering television shows, live video clips, video mail, and games. This presentation will provide a cook book of considerations for building and deploying these applications with a focus on NMS's Vision family.

Featured Presenter:
Sum Wan, Director of Technology, Systems Architect, NMS

The Evolution of Signaling
Challenges abound for application developers and equipment providers creating communications solutions that must interoperate with the large installed base of traditional wireless and PSTN networks — particularly when it comes to signaling. As these solutions evolve to support the requirements of the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and other next generation networks, Sigtran and BICC are two of the signaling protocols that are emerging to support this diverse network landscape. This session discusses the basics of Sigtran and BICC and how NMS will provide you with enabling technologies to address evolving network architectures.

Featured Presenter:
Jeff DeMent, Principal Engineer, NMS

IMS Lessons Learned
Not unlike the Intelligent Network before it, the goal of IMS is to facilitate developing and deploying new applications. But as an evolving set of standards, the term IMS is today applied to a variety of next generation networks—just about any configuration that involves IP and SIP. What's an application developer to do so their media rich application is deployable today, tomorrow, and in the fully-evolved IMS networks of the future? The session will begin with an overview of the evolving world of IMS and then focus on the current status of several real-world applications. The session will also consider practical approaches for applications that mix combinations of IMS-based video sharing, 3G video calling, WAP, MMS, and voice telephony. In all cases, the emphasis will be on end-to-end technical requirements from concept to delivery.
