Course Description
This course provides an overview of ISDN basics and teaches how to install, configure and develop applications using NMS ISDN software. Lectures provide a fundamental understanding of ISDN as well as the features and functionality of NMS ISDN software. Hands-on exercises provide practice in installation, configuring and building applications. NOTE: This course is available with two options. Option 1 provides an introduction to the NMS Messaging API. Option 2 provides an introduction to the NMS ISDN for NCC API.

Modules

ISDN Concepts
This module presents an introduction to ISDN concepts and terminology and a more detailed look at the ISDN protocols for the Physical, Data Link and Network layers.

NMS ISDN Overview
This module presents an introduction to NMS ISDN software-configurations, components, architectural and operational overview, and capabilities. It includes a brief review of Natural Access Core components and architecture. This module provides a high-level comparison of the capabilities of the ISDN Messaging API and the ISDN for NCC API. It also provides an overview of the ISDN MGT (management) API.

NMS ISDN Installation and Configuration
This module teaches procedures for installing and configuring NMS ISDN software. It includes an overview of OAM keywords important to configuring NMS ISDN software, practice creating and loading an NMS ISDN configuration using oamsys, and practice using utilities such as isdndemo and dectrace to verify installation.

Messaging API (Option #1)
This module provides an introduction to features of the NMS ISDN Messaging API including functions, primitives and Information Elements. It describes how the Messaging API sends and receives messages and events, and ACU mode call control.

ISDN for NCC API (Option #2)
This module presents information on how to build applications using the NMS ISDN for NCC API. It includes an overview of features, and presents details on NMS Natural Call Control (NCC) API functions. It provides hands-on exercises for developing ISDN applications.
