OAM

Course Description
This course provides you with the information you need to use the NMS Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) software. You will learn how to create/edit configuration files and load the OAM database. You will also learn how to use OAM utilities and the OAM API to manage your system. The Clock Management EMC and the Hot Swap EMC are discussed as well as migration tools to convert exisiting configuration files to the format required by OAM. Hands-on exercises provide practice using OAM to configure and manage your system.

Modules

OAM Overview
This module provides an introduction to the Operations, Administration and Maintenance service architecture, components, API and utilities. Basic concepts common to Natural Access services such as contexts, events and queues are also discussed.

Creating Configuration Files
In this module you will learn how to create the system configuration and keyword files used to load and initialize the OAM database. Rules for creating keyword statements and keyword shorthand notation are discussed in detail.

OAM Utilities
This module describes the oamsys, oamcfg and oammon utilities used to perform system wide configuration and startup of boards, make changes to parameter settings in the OAM database, monitor errors, etc.

Installation and Initialization
This module teaches procedures for installing and initializing Natural Access Core and the OAM Service. It includes an overview of the Natural Access Core functions needed to invoke the OAM Service.

OAM API
In this module you will learn how to use the OAM API functions to configure and manage your NMS hardware and software components programmatically. The OAM API functions support configuring objects in the OAM database, starting, stopping and testing boards, retrieving board id information and performing advanced system management functions.

Clock Management EMC
This module explains basic concepts in clock management as well as how to configure the CT bus clock to synchronize communication between boards.

Hot Swap EMC
The Hot Swap EMC module explains how to set up your chassis to maximize the number of available Hot Swap slots and reviews Hot Swap operations.

Migration Tools
OAM supercedes agmon as a means for configuring NMS components in your system. This module presents a summary of the changes you will find when you migrate to OAM from agmon. You will learn how to use the ag2oam utility to translate existing AG configuration files into the system configuration files required by OAM.
