Course Description
This course provides a review of SS7 network and protocol basics and teaches concepts and methods for installing, configuring and programming with NMS's SS7 hardware and software. Lectures provide a fundamental understanding of the features and functionality of NMS SS7 utilities and APIs. Hands-on exercises provide practice in installation, configuration and using NMS SS7 APIs to build applications.
Note: This course is availble with two options. One option introduces ISUP layer API functions and the second option introduces TCAP layer API transaction functions. An SCCP module is also availble by special request.

Modules
Network Overview
This module presents an overview of intelligent network structure. Topics include: signaling points, links and linksets, routes and routesets, reliability and addressing.
Protocol Overview
In this module, an overview of the SS7 protocol stack is illustrated with examples of MTP, ISUP and TCAP layer applications.
Installation and Configuration
This module teach installation and configuration procedures for TX seies hardware and NMS software. It provides information on common TX alarms and an overview of TX utilities.
MTP3 Layer API
The NMS MTP 3 layer management API functions for configuration, status requests, control requests and statistics requests are introduced in this module. Hands-on exercises provide practice in using several of these functions.
ISUP Layer API (Option #1)
This module presents information on how to use NMS ISUP API functions to to establish, maintain and clear circuit-switched connections in an SS7 network. The module discusses ISUP congestion handling and includes hands-on exercises.
TCAP Layer API (Option #2)
This module introduces the NMS TCAP service functions, as well as basic TCAP concepts, including transaction and component types and TCAP message structure. The module provides sample applications for sending, receiving and responding to transactions, an overview of TCAP congestion control and hands-on exercises.
SS7 Redundancy and HMI API
This module provides an overview of NMS SS7 redundancy and health managment and introduces the Health Management Interface (HMI) API. It discusses redundant application models for SCCP, TCAP and ISUP, as well as hands-on exercises.
Introduction to SCCP
This module covers SCCP concepts including message structure, classes, flow control, addressing and routing and Global Title Translation. It introduces the SCCP data transfer amd management APIs and provides hands-on exercises. Note: This 4-hour module is offered by request only and would extend the class to 3.5 days.
