Course Description
This course provides a review of SS7 network and protocol basics and teaches concepts and methods for installing, configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting NMS' SS7 hardware and software. Lectures provide a fundamental understanding of the features and functionality of NMS SS7 protocol layers and utilities. Hands-on exercises provide practice in installation, configuration, monitoring and management, and troubleshooting.
Note: The standard course features an introduction to ISUP layer functionality, configuration, and troubleshooting. By request, an alternate version introducing the TCAP layer is available.

Modules
Network Overview
This module presents an overview of intelligent network structure. Topics include: signaling points, links and linksets, routes and routesets, reliability and addressing.
Protocol Overview
In this module, an overview of the SS7 protocol stack is illustrated with examples of MTP, ISUP and TCAP layer applications.
Installation & Layer 1 Configuration & Troubleshooting
This module presents installation procedures for TX series hardware and NMS software, and teaches how to configure trunking and clocking. It introduces troubleshooting tools for TX3220 boards. It also includes instruction in TDM port configuration, verification of Layer 1 status, and physical layer troubleshooting. Hands-on exercises provide practice.
MTP Layer Configuration & Troubleshooting
This module introduces the NMS MTP 3 layer functionality, and teaches configuration and troubleshooting tools and techniques. Hands-on exercises provide practice.
ISUP Layer Configuration & Troubleshooting (standard course offering)
This module teaches ISUP layer functionality and configuration, and introduces utilities for monitoring, managing and troubleshooting the ISUP layer. Hands-on exercises provide practice in troubleshooting techniques.
TCAP and SCCP Layers Configuration & Troubleshooting (by request only)
This module covers SCCP and TCAP layer functionality and introduces SCCP and TCAP configuration and troubleshooting tools and techniques. Hands-on exercises provide practice. This module is offered by special request only.
SS7 Health Management & Redundancy
This module introduces NMS SS7 Health Management and Redundancy architecture, and the SS7 Health Management Interface (HMI). It discusses HMI and redundant system configuration requirements, and teaches how to bring up, monitor and troubleshoot a redundant system. Hands-on exercises provide practice.
