Abstract
The Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA or ATCA) is an open industry specification for building high-performance communications systems. This architecture gives equipment providers and developers a foundation for building economical, highly available, scalable solutions for their service provider customers throughout all aspects of the communications network — the wireless Radio Access Network (RAN), the wireless core, and the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).
This white paper provides an overview of AdvancedTCA and then details many aspects of the AdvancedTCA specification such as the switching fabrics, mechanical configuration, shelf and system management, power and cooling, and other important features. This paper also describes NMS Communications’ involvement in the development of the AdvancedTCA specification and other recent AdvancedTCA activities.
