In the TX environment, a virtual circuit created on a TX series board in order to connect channels from the PSTN interface to resources at the packet network interface.

vocabulary
In NaturalRecognition, a data structure that contains the information derived from a set of spoken examples of words. Vocabulary refers to a set of words and their associated pronunciations. Different vocabularies can contain the same set of words, but different pronunciations.

vocabulary set
In Natural Recognition, a set of data structures that can contain vocabularies. A vocabulary set can contain only one type of vocabulary, speaker-independent or speaker-dependent - never both. An speaker-dependent vocabulary set can contain only one speaker-dependent vocabulary.

vocoder
A type of voice coder that comprises a speech analyzer and speech synthesizer. The speech analyzer converts analog speech into digital signals. The speech synthesizer converts digital signals into artificial speech sounds.

voice-grade line
A local loop, or trunk; a 4 kHz channel having an audio bandpass of approximately 300 to 3200 Hz.

voice handle
In the CT Access Voice Message service, the handle of an open voice object.

Voice Message Service
A CT Access service that provides a set of functions for playing, recording, and editing voice messages in files or memory.

voice object
In the CT Access Voice Message service, a file or a memory block containing voice messages. See also message.

VoIP
Voice-over-IP; refers to Internet Telephony. See also Internet Telephony.

VON
Voice On the Network; another synonym for packetized voice data used in Internet Telephony. See also Internet Telephony.

VOX
An editable voice file format which permits one file to contain multiple messages. See also message.

VSP
Virtual Signal Processor; a signal processing program running on the Diva DSP chip under a multi-tasked operating system. Multiple programs can run concurrently on one DSP chip. The purpose of a VSP is to process PCM input signals, to generate PCM output signals, or both.
