4.3 Verifying Your MC1 Installation with SW

The SW utility is installed with your MC1 board software. Under UNIX, the utility can be found in /opt/nms/bin. Under Windows NT and OS/2, the utility can be found in \nms\bin. If you have not already done so, you should add the directory to your path.

To verify that the MC1 board is operational using SW:

  1. Execute SW in interactive mode by entering the following at the operating system prompt:

       sw

The SW utility starts up, and displays its prompt:

   SW:
  1. Enter a command to open the device driver and assign a handle. The command differs under different operating systems.

sw opens the driver and assigns handle "mc" to device 0. Then the prompt reappears.

  1. Enter the following command to reset the switch to a known initial state:

       drv.ResetSwitch mc

  2. Enter the following command to make a switch connection:

       drv.makeconx mc 16:0 to 0:0

  3. Enter the following command to display the switch connection:

       drv.readconx mc 0:0

  4. The following will be displayed:

       STo (0:00) 16:00

  5. Enter the following command to exit sw.

       Exit

The operating system prompt reappears. If you can reset the switch and make a switch connection, your MC1 board has been properly installed.
