1.2 Related Products

Your AG Connect board is only one of the components you will need to build a complete MVIP application. You will probably require additional hardware and software, as described in this section.

1.2.1 Hardware

AG Connect boards are network boards: they provide an interface to telephone lines, and local switching capability. To create systems which include voice processing, FAX, speech recognition, text-to-speech, etc. you will also need one or more AG resource boards, such as the AG-8, AG-24 or another AG product. All AG boards communicate with each other over the MVIP bus, as shown in Figure 1.

AG Connect boards are not supported for use with VBXTM boards.

1.2.2 Software

To control an AG Connect board's switching functions, you can use the NMS SwitchPathTM library of C functions for MVIP switch control. Alternatively, you can use the NMS SW Utility: a stand-alone program which allows you to issue individual commands interactively, or to issue multiple commands in a batch file (script). For more information about SwitchPath, see the SwitchPath Technical Reference Manual. For more information about the SW Utility, see the SW Utility User's Manual.

To configure and control your AG resource boards, you can use the AG AccessTM library of C functions for resource board control. AG board drivers are also compatible with applications based on the NMS ME/2TM or ME/XTM function libraries.

Figure 1 illustrates how the various components of an AG Connect application relate to one another:

The SW Utility is installed when you install the driver software (see Chapter 2). Other products such as SwitchPath, AG Access, ME/2 and ME/X may not be included in your development package. To order any of these products, contact NMS.
