3.3 Installing Under Windows NT 3.51

To install the AG Connect board driver software under Windows NT 3.51, run the installation program as described in this procedure:

Note: Install your AG Connect boards in your system before installing the software. (See Chapter 2 to learn how to do this.) Make a note of the base I/O addresses at which you installed the boards. The installation program will prompt you for these addresses.

  1. If you plan to install SwitchPath, do so before installing the AG Connect board driver software. To learn how to install SwitchPath, see your SwitchPath documentation.

  2. Log on as a member of the Administrators group.

  3. Insert the driver installation disk into a floppy disk drive (A: drive).

  4. In the Program Manager, choose Run... from the File menu.

    The "Run" dialog box appears.
  5. Enter the following and click OK:

      a:\setup

The installation program starts. After displaying its welcome screen, it prompts you to choose a directory to install the software into.
  6. Press Enter to choose the default path, or type a new path and press Enter.

The program asks you to select a program folder to install the software icons into.
  7. Press Enter to choose the default folder, or enter a new name.

The installation program copies the driver files into the directory you select.
If the program detects previously installed files that are newer than the versions contained in the package, it asks you whether to install or skip the files in question. Typically, you should NOT overwrite newer files.
When most of the copying is complete, a dialog box titled "AG Connect Driver Board Installation" appears.
The installation program is asking you to specify the I/O address(es) of the AG Connect board(s) you have installed. It is also asking you to specify the encoding scheme each board will use in your application.
  8. Click Add Board.

A dialog box titled "Add Board" appears.
  9. Click on the arrow next to the "Board Number" drop-down menu and select an ID number for one of your AG Connect boards.

Each of your AG Connect boards should be given a unique board number. When you create your switching application using SwitchPath or the SW Utility, you will use these numbers to refer to your boards in software. Boards should be numbered from 0 upward.
  10. Click on the arrow next to the "Board Address" drop-down menu, and select the base I/O address of one of your AG Connect boards. (See section 2.3.2 for more information about the I/O addresses of your boards.)

  11. Under "Encode Law", choose the scheme appropriate for your country.

  12. Press Done.

The "AG Connect Card Driver Board Installation" dialog box reappears. Your board settings appear in the box.
  13. Repeat steps 8 through 12 above for each AG Connect board you have installed in your system.

  14. When all of your boards are properly listed in the "AG Connect Card Driver Board Installation" dialog box, press Next.

The installation program finishes copying files to your system. It then prompts you to allow changes to your NT registry, and to reboot your system.
  15. Answer the prompts as they appear.

Note: Make sure to reboot your system after installation, as directed by the installation program. The driver will not be available until you reboot.

3.3.1 Changing The Configuration After Installation (NT)

You may need to modify your driver configuration after you have completed the install process. For example, you may wish to add additional boards to your system, or you may need to change the base I/O address of a board.

To change your driver configuration, do the following:

  1. Start SETUP.EXE again, as described in steps 4 and 5 of section 3.3 above.

The installation program starts, and displays its welcome screen.
  2. Click Next.

A dialog box titled "Select Components" appears.
  3. Click on Modify Board Configuration, and press Next.

The "AG Connect Card Driver Board Installation" dialog box appears.
  4. Add, edit or delete card entries as needed, using the Add Board, Edit Board or Delete Board buttons.

  5. Press Next, and answer the remaining prompts as they appear.

Note: Make sure to reboot your system, if you are directed to do so by the installation program.

3.3.2 Uninstalling the Driver Software (NT)

To remove the driver software from your system, you can use the "Uninstall" program installed with the software.
If you have more than one NMS package installed in your system, the "Uninstall" program may delete common files. Do not use "Uninstall" unless your AG Connect driver software is the only NMS software installed in your system.

To use this program, do the following:

  1. In the Natural MicroSystems program group in the Program Manager, double-click on the "Uninstall" icon.

    The Uninstall program starts up.
  2. Follow the prompts as they appear.

The program removes the driver software and related files from your system.
