1.1 About AG Connect Products

Boards in the AG Connect family of products provide up to 24 analog telephone ports to your telephony application. Your application can direct them to receive incoming calls, place outgoing calls, transfer calls to local phones, switch calls to other boards, and other functions.

1.1.1 AG Connect Board Models

1.1.2 AG Connect Main Components

The main components of the AG Connect board are:

  • ISA bus connectivity 

    
AG Connect boards are full-size cards. They are designed to reside in single ISA bus slots.
    

  • Trunk connectivity

    

    
Each board connects to the OWS phones and/or the public service telephone network via a DB-62 high density connector on the card bracket. A custom cable is available that connects this port directly to a telephony type 50 pin connector (male RJ21X). For S Connect-x and S/T Connect boards, you also use this cable to connect an external power supply to power the operator work station phones, and to provide ringing voltage (With Ringing boards only).
    

  • Conferencing

    

    
Boards with the Conferencing feature are capable of supporting up to 5 conferences. For more information on conferencing, see Section 5.7.
    

  • MVIP Connectivity

    

    
AG Connect boards provide full support of the MVIP bus specification. The MVIP bus allows boards to share data and signaling information with other boards on the bus. For example, you can add DSP resources, analog station interfaces, or loop start line interfaces using other AG boards. You can also use MVIP compatible products from other manufacturers with the AG board.
    

  • Telephony bus switching

    

    
The switching for the AG Connect is implemented with the FMIC (Flexible MVIP Integrated Circuit). The FMIC is a single chip that offers full support for the MVIP bus, providing access to all 512 timeslots on the bus.

    1.1.3	 Typical Configuration
    

    


    Typically, AG Connect boards are used in conjunction with one or more other MVIP-compliant boards with DSP resources, such as the AG-T1 or AG-24. The AG Connect board is connected to these other boards over the MVIP bus. The DSP resources are used for voice and call processing tasks such as voice recording and playback, DTMF detection and generation, and call progress analysis.

    AG Connect boards are not supported for use with VBX boards.
    

    

    

    1.2	 Software Components
    

    


    To create an AG Connect application, you will need the following software:
    

    

    

    1.2.1	 About CT Access
    

    


    AG Connect applications are built using CT Access. CT Access is a complete software development environment for telephony applications. 
    


    In CT Access, telephony functions are grouped into logical services. Each service has a standard API. CT Access services include call control, DTMF generation and detection, and voice playing and recording. Also included is a Switching service to control switching on MVIP and H.100 compliant devices. This service is used to make or break connections, send patterns, and to sample data.
    


    CT Access also includes components that configure and control AG boards other than AG Connect boards, that have DSPs. Use these components if your application involves other AG boards in addition to AG Connect boards. These components are:
    

    

    

    1.2.2	 About the AG Connect Driver
    

    


    The AG Connect board comes with a driver which runs on the host computer. The CT Access Switching service (see below) communicates with the AG Connect board through this driver. To learn how to install the driver, see Chapter 3.
