1.1 About NaturalText
- Text-to-speech conversion is the process that transforms text input into audible speech output. NaturalText is a C language application programming interface that adds text-to-speech capability to Natural MicroSystems Alliance Generation (AG) telephony platforms. The NaturalText API is compatible with the CT Access environment and employs the same asynchronous programming model.
- The NaturalText software development kit contains the tools you need to integrate accurate, understandable text-to-speech conversion within your telephony applications. You can use these tools in a variety of ways.
- NaturalText provides the following features for application developers:
- Recognizes common punctuation, like exclamation points, question marks,
commas, and colons, and pronounces words with natural intonation.
- Provides controls for changing the pitch, volume, and speed of spoken text.
- Provides navigational controls like pause and resume, jump-forward and
jump-back.
- Supports up to 16 simultaneous ports of English text-to-speech on Diva II
daughterboards.
- Supports up to 20 simultaneous ports of Spanish text-to-speech on Diva II
daughterboards.
- Performs most text-to-speech functions on Diva daughterboards (thus off-
loading these processes from the host).
- Includes an English E-mail Preprocessor for filtering and interpreting text
before it is spoken.
- Supports User Exception Dictionaries that provide specific pronunciations
for non-standard or hard-to-pronounce words.
