  1. Install the software

  2. Set environment variables

Note: Before installing NaturalText, ensure that any earlier installation of NaturalText has been removed by the procedure discussed in Section 3.2, Windows NT Software Removal.

Refer to \nms\nattest\doc\files.txt for a complete list of the files installed with NaturalText. Refer to \nms\nattext\doc\changes.txt for a list of important notices, documentation errata, and changes from previous releases of NaturalText.

To install NaturalText under Windows NT:

  1. Log on as a member of the Administrators group.

  2. Insert the NaturalText installation disk into a floppy disk drive
    (A: drive).

  3. Bring up the Run dialog box, as follows:

    • For Windows NT 4.0:

Choose Start, then select Run... .
    • For Windows NT 3.51:

Follow the prompts as appropriate for your system.
The installation program allows you to select one of the following installation options:

    1.2.2 Setting Environment Variables (NT)

As a result of the installation, the following environment variable will be modified (unless you specify otherwise):

        NMSLMFDB=c:\nms\licenses.txt

The example shown above use the default installation directory of c:\nms.

The license file defined in NMSLMFDB contains your NaturalText password. The password specifies the number of test-to-speech ports allowed in your system. See Section 1.7 for details on activating your NaturalText licenses.

Note: If you specify that the installation should not modify the environment variable, you will need to modify the license environment variable yourself before running any NaturalText applications.

Now proceed to Section 1.5, Modifying Your CT Access Configuration File, to complete your installation.
