1.3 Installing Under OS/2

This section provides instructions for installing NaturalText on the OS/2 operating system. You will complete the following steps:

  1. Install the software

  2. Set environment variables

Refer to \nms\nattext\doc\files.txt for a complete list of the files installed with NaturalText. Refer to \nms\nattext\doc\changes.txt for a list of important notices, documentation errata, and changes from previous releases of NaturalText.

1.3.1 Running the Installation Script (OS/2)

To install the NaturalText software:

  1. Insert the first NaturalText installation disk into a floppy disk drive (A: drive).

  2. Open an OS/2 command window.

  3. Make the floppy drive your active drive (for example, a:) and enter:

       install

Follow the prompts as appropriate for your system.

1.3.2 Setting Environment Variables (OS/2)

After installation is complete, use a text editor to modify the config.sys file as described in the following steps (replace c: with the destination drive that you selected in the installation).

Note: The license environment variable may have already been added because it is also required by other NMS product components.

  1. Create the environment variable NMSLMFDB to specify the license file. For example:

        SET NMSLMFDB=c:\nms\licenses.txt

The license file specified by NMSLMFDB contains your NaturalText password. The password specifies the number of text-to-speech ports allowed in your system. See Section 1.7 for details on activating your NaturalText licenses.

  2. Save the modified config.sys and exit the editor.

  3. Shut down and restart your system for the changes to config.sys to take effect.

  4. Now proceed to Section 1.5, Modifying Your CT Access Configuration File, to complete your installation.
