2.1 Introduction

This chapter describes how to install the AG CAS product under Windows NT and UNIX.

You can install AG CAS software in any of the following ways:

This chapter describes how to install AG CAS alone. However, keep in mind that AG CAS requires some of the software contained in the Natural Access package to operate.

Note: Before installing a new version of the AG CAS software, make sure you have removed any previous versions.

2.1.1 System Requirements

Systems that run AG CAS protocols for the NCC service require the following software:

2.2 Installing Under Windows NT

This procedure describes how to install the AG CAS software for Windows NT 4.0. This procedure is applicable if you wish to install from:

You can also use the Natural Access setup program to install this package from the CD-ROM. To learn how to install the software this way, refer to the booklet that comes with the CD-ROM for installation instructions.

  1. Log on as a member of the Administrators group.

  2. Start the AG CAS setup program:

    • If you are installing from the CD-ROM using the AG CAS setup program, use the Windows Explorer to navigate to the \ag-cas\disk1\ directory on the CD-ROM, and start setup.exe.

    • If you are installing from a package downloaded from the NMS web site, "unzip" the package into a directory. Navigate to the directory, and start setup.exe.

      The setup program starts.
    • Answer the prompts as they appear.

The setup program asks you for the following:
      • A directory to install the software into.

      • The type of installation (Typical, Compact, or Custom).

      • The protocol(s) you want to install (for some protocols you are required to specify the country of operation).

The installation program proceeds to install AG CAS software.

2.3 Installing Under UNIX (Unixware and Solaris)

This procedure describes how to install the AG CAS software for UnixWare or Solaris. This procedure is applicable if you wish to install from:

You can also use the Natural Access installation script to install this package from the CD-ROM. To learn how to install the software this way, refer to the booklet that comes with the CD-ROM for installation instructions.

      1. Access a command prompt, and log in as root.

      2. Insert the Natural Access installation CD into the CD ROM drive.

      3. For UnixWare, mount the CD by typing

        mount -F cdfs -r /dev/cdrom/devicename mountpoint
...where devicename is the device name of the CD-ROM, and mountpoint is the mount point directory.
Solaris auto-mounts the CD when it detects its existence, or you can mount it from the desktop by double-clicking on the appropriate icon. The Solaris mount directory is /cdrom/cdrom0.
      4. Enter this command to invoke the pkgadd utility:

        pkgadd -d mountpoint ag-cas
      5. Specify the protocol(s) you want to install (for some protocols you are required to specify the country of operation).

The installation program copies software files from the CD to the designated drive.
      6. Unmount the CD directory my typing:

        umount mountpoint
When you finish installing protocol software, edit the appropriate AG configuration (ag.cfg) file as described in Chapter 3.

2.4 Removing AG CAS Protocol Software

This chapter describes procedures for removing protocol software under the following operating systems:

      2.4.1 Uninstalling Under Windows NT

Remove AG CAS Protocol software from your system with the Windows NT Add/Remove Programs applet.

Note: Before removing AG CAS software, ensure there are no applications running that use the software.

To remove AG CAS Protocol software:

      1. Log on as a member of the Administrators group.

      2. From the Windows NT Start menu, click Settings, then Control Panel.

The Windows NT Control Panel appears.
      3. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon.

      4. Select the Natural MicroSystems AG CAS software package, and click Add/Remove button.

      5. Follow the removal prompts (if any) that appear.

      2.4.2 Uninstalling Under UNIX

Before removing CAS protocol software make sure no applications are running that use the software.

To remove international protocol software from a UNIX system:

      1. Log in as root.

      2. From a supervisory account, enter:

        pkgrm AG-CAS
        pkgrm displays the following prompt:
The following package is currently installed:
        Natural MicroSystems AG <
        version> for <O/S>
Do you want to remove this package? [y,n,?,q]
      3. Enter y.

After the removal is complete, the uninstall program displays the following confirmation:
Removal of AG CAS was successful.
      4. Exit the root shell.
